Supporting Research
Answers for Today. A Healthier Tomorrow.
As Bogart's Legacy grows, the Chanel Memorial Initiative could provide funding or directed donations to credible research addressing areas relevant to her story and the broader canine population.
- environmental and chemical exposures;
- canine cancer;
- reproductive and endocrine disease;
- bone-marrow disorders, thrombocytopenia and other severe cytopenias;
- rare or poorly understood diseases;
- other emerging areas where dogs and their families desperately need better answers.
Any future research support should be evidence-based, transparent and consistent with the scientific standards of Bogart's Legacy.
Helping Dogs Who Need a Chance
More Care. More Time. More Tomorrows.
When Chanel became desperately ill, I was fortunate that I could continue searching. I could travel to specialists, pursue additional opinions, pay for advanced imaging and surgery, and keep investigating when the first explanation did not make sense.
Many families cannot.
Someday, I would like Chanel's name associated with helping those dogs.
As resources permit, the long-term vision includes developing a charitable assistance program that could help qualified families facing serious or unusually complex veterinary cases obtain diagnostics, specialist consultation, treatment or other essential care they might otherwise be unable to afford.
It will take time to build that responsibly. But that is the dream.
One Dog Helping Another
Loss Can Become the Beginning of Something Better.
Nothing can give Chanel the years she should have had.
Nothing can replace waking up and finding her beside me.
But her life can still matter beyond the years she was given.
If research supported in her name helps uncover an answer… if education prevents another harmful exposure… if a veterinarian recognizes an unusual condition sooner… if a family receives the diagnostic test they could not afford… or if one frightened owner is given that one ounce of hope I was desperately searching for… then something good will have grown from something that once felt unbearably senseless.
That is how I want Chanel remembered. Not simply as the dog I lost, but as the heart dog whose life became an opportunity to help another.
